OCTOBER 17, 2011

Dear Family!

My life is wonderful! Still hard. Still scrubbing my socks with a bar of soap in the sink and still begging members for food …LOL… but I am sooo happy!

Here are some interesting things I say this week. 5 people on one motorcycle! The people are crazy here! Mom and dad and three kids on this little tiny bike. 4 is common but five is the record for me. Others have seen up to seven. It does not matter the age, throw grandma on the back side saddle with a baby on her lap and just go.

I ate a fancy dish here that was MOSTLY chicken the rest was liver and a heart! I gladly gobbled it up. Heart is MUCH better than liver.

I have a dog. His name is fox. He reminds us of the crazy squirrel from ice age because he is crazy and jittery all the time! Just about every morning we let him out of the little gate that has three little houses in it (Fox is really the dog of the family below us we think). And every night we let him back in. He is always SOOO happy to see us! But he freaks out if you move at him too closely LOL. He thinks we are going to beat him up. Gabby there are millions of dogs here! All over the place. Nice ones, mean ones, baby ones, old grumpy grandpa ones, cute ones and really, really ugly ones.

We have not been able to buy gas this week so I have been enjoying some nice chilly showers! Also sometimes at night they shut our water off! We have to be use to fill up a bottle before it gets late.

Someone threw rocks at us this week. No idea who. We never saw them. Don´t worry mom they missed!

This week was Mother’s Day over here! This last Sunday! One of my pictures is of something that the branch presidents wife made for all the moms down here! She gave one to us missionaries too to send to our moms. I will see what I can do! We were a little worried about what would happen with our investigators on this holiday. True to form no one showed at church but we were able to contact a bunch and wish them a great Mother’s Day! We contacted with a song for mothers, really just a hymn, and actually got into a bunch of houses that way! We have several appointments out of it. We will see if anything comes of it. Everyone was drunk and the other missionaries in our apartment got beer thrown on them.

Oh the other picture is of a mountain of food that we got from a member! We stopped by at Gema´s birthday party (my first baptism) but could not stay long and ended up leaving before the food. Gema´s mom felt so bad that she brought us some of everything! The other missionaries were jealous because we are more loved... The mother is inactive but in the process of reactivation!

We had a sweet lesson with some evangelistas this week! Ok well it was a bit scary. We sang a cute little song to the mother and were about to set an appointment and head out to our next appointment when in came daddy! He ordered that his wife bring cookies and drinks to feed these messengers of God who walk around in the streets all day to bring people the word of God! He sat us down and wanted to know everything because he said he had the strongest testimony of God in the whole world because he used to be paralyzed but now he is not! He actually scared us a little bit LOL. When he first walked in the mother sent the kids out of the room and he started talking really loud! It all went... fairly well though. LOL. We get through the lesson despite all of the other miracles and prophets and stuff that they brought into the picture. They did promise us that they would read the Book of Mormon LOL next visit we will have to be a little bit more pushy and direct with them. They will probably like that better anyway. Everyone in their church is very loud and outspoken about things. It’s like a church full of just one personality and they are all happy with that.

Ok now the spiritual stuff. This week I learned that faith is real. It’s true. It’s a super power. One day me and my companion were really rather down on our hope. We did not expect miracles because we have not been having miracles. This week has been brutal! All of our appointments falling through. Having to leave good investigators alone for a while because they are not progressing. Just hard. This day we got home especially down hearted. BUT we pulled ourselves together, fixed our point of view, reminded ourselves that our success comes from God and went back to work! The next day we were not able to do to much different or too much more but the difference was in our faith! When we had faith and went into situations with no fear expecting blessings for our work and obedience we found blessings and miracles! Things beyond our control! I had the two best lessons of my mission in the same day! The people we found were interested! People who remembered our appointments, people who are going to keep commitments and asked if they could come to church with us! People who really need what we have! People who are really suffering and felt comfortable enough to share their feelings with us. It was wonderful! Our mission president talked about the same principle a bit today. We have to do everything we can pray with faith and then expect the blessings! Hope for the blessings!

Oh before I forget. My mission president specifically asked me to thank you for him, mom and dad, for raising me like you did. Thank you! LOL He is awesome and I look forward to working with him more!

Other awesome thing. My mission president talked about obedience today. He told us something new this time. He said that all these little rules that I have in the mission are to test my heart. He said that really if you wake up a few minutes late or something like that the devil does not have power or anything like that. You do have less success but its because the Lord can´t trust you as much now. When we follow the Savior and do what he wants he can trust us to do more. He came us a quote from president Packer that I really liked. The best leaders in the church are predictable! I will always strive to be more obedient and align my will with the Father´s! Every seeking to lose myself more and more in the work!

My Chilean comp know the song los pollitos dicen pio pio pio lol its great!

Good luck with everything at home with the move and all! I love you all! Love hearing from you all! Keep me ever updated! Sorry I did not answer any questions this week! If there were any... I will check next week and answer whatever you want!

Elder Green!
