The best part of our day is morning scripture reading. It has turned into a great time to take a few minutes together as a family before Dad heads off to work. We use this as a Family Council time too and just keep everyone on track for what is happening during the week. We can also discuss any problems anyone is having.I am using it as a school accountability check-up too. I have two subjects per day that I ask the kids about. How is their writing going?...what books are they reading?...what are their health goals for the week? What are they learning in Science? etc. The focus is to inspire and encourage them not to take them to task for being behind...that can happen later ... This has been a great way to keep checked in with my teens and their classes and hasn't taken much time at all. We've found it's best to talk school subjects AFTER we've read some scriptures because we're all in a better frame of mind.
And sometimes, our morning get together, turns into a fun family moment that we'll remember for a long time...like this week when we discovered aliens in the Bible...no lie... read Hebrews 11:34. (King James Version--I've heard it's not so exciting in Spanish versions) How can you have a bad day when you know that by faith you can fight off aliens?! Which leads our family on a round of BOLT quoting, "Wait for it.....wait for it.....ALIENS!" "Oh, snap."
