As homeschoolers we end up having days off for some unavoidable reasons. I like having that flexibility. But normal national holidays irritate me....nothing against the Presidents. I just hate having someone else call a day off when I'm in the middle of something. Today we compromised. I declared it "Take Your Dad to School Day"! We had a shortened version of school in the morning with the kids picking out some of their favorite classes to show to Dad and then we played in the afternoon. The teens showed Dad some of the DVD classes we do from the Teaching Company that he is "missing". We watched our Economics class and got to hear all of Dad's opinions. Then we watched our favorite class "The Joy of Thinking" and loved to see Dad enjoying the wonderment of it all too. They were thrilled that he insisted that there HAS to be more than 5 Plantonic solids because they have had to run from this class and figure it out themselves too. We finished with "The Joy of Science" and got an introduction to the next section we'll be learning about: Biology. After the teens ran off with their friends he settle down and had G read to him from her book. I think it was a very sucessful day. Dad got to see a little bit more of what all the kids are doing and the excitement for what we are learning stayed high...even with a day "off".

My kids loved that the next lesson in the series was why there can NOT be a sixth platonic solid. Dad has to watch that one!
